The keynote address, Storytelling in deliberation: enabling empathy and
challenging assumptions, will be given by Prof Mike Burgess, Chair in
Biomedical Ethics at the University of British Columbia, Canada.
Joining Mike will be Prof Jackie Leach Scully, presenting Digging deeper at
a distance: exploring moral reasoning and evaluation online, Dr Anson
Fehrooss, discussing Deliberative democracy and medical decision making,
and Dr Simon Niemeyer reporting on the Australian Citizens’ Jury on Genome
Editing.
After lunch ACHEEV's Assoc/Prof Chris Degeling will share the story of a
series of community juries on vaccination run during the COVID-19 pandemic,
and Prof Stacy Carter will lead a conversation about re-imagining ACHEEV's
deliberative methodology. Finally, the ACHEEV team will debate—with the
audience—whether an exceptionalist case can be made for deliberative
projects focused on health.
