Greetings! Final reminder: 1 week left!
CFP: THE ACHEEV 2023 SYMPOSIUM: RESEARCHING VALUES IN HEALTH CONTEXTS Venue: The University of Wollongong Date: Thursday October 12th 2023 Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (Sydney time) Submission deadline: August 30th 2023 The 2023 ACHEEV Symposium focuses on values in public health and health care. ‘Values’ are a common object of academic attention in health research, but are conceptualised and theorised differently in the disciplines contributing to health research. Some disciplines offer deep ontological and epistemological structures for thinking about values (consider for example value theory in moral philosophy, or fact-value debates in the philosophy of science). In contrast, some research practices treat participant values as self-evident in data, without relying on such scaffolding. And some methodologies—such as deliberative democratic approaches—invite participants to make cooperative judgements about value trade-offs. ACHEEV welcomes you to participate in a conversation about values in the context of theoretical and empirical health research. Together we will consider how values are being conceptualised, operationalised, and evidenced in research about health, public health and healthcare. We will conclude the day with an interactive session, focused on discussion with colleagues about your own research practices We are delighted to feature two keynote speakers at this year’s symposium, Professor Kieran O’Doherty from the University of Guelph, Canada, and Dr Bryan Mukandi from the University of Wollongong. We welcome submissions from all scholars doing research about health, regardless of discipline. We will design the program in response to the level of interest. As a result, we may invite you to present a short paper as part of a panel session, or a longer paper with discussion.
