Sorry, please excuse my miscommunication - you're right, but the point
was that I was trying to cause my app to throw an error (which that
does), and then get symfony NOT to show the error on the front end by
setting display_errors to off. What seems to be happening, though, is
symfony is setting display_errors to ON somewhere in the core code.

Any ideas?
