Isn't this what the widgets do? For instance, if a value is saved as a
timestamp, you might use a date widget to display and modify the value
as formatted date.

Why don't you just program a custom validator for that value conversion?

Can you maybe provide some real-life examples/use-cases for this
feature? It sounds great, but I'm not sure whether it's worth the
additional code.
