I think the problem is negligible.  As many people have pointed out  
there's plenty of ways to improve site performance.    My concern with  
doing your 2nd method is this.  One of the big argument for using  
Symfony is so that a non php developer can edit pages if they need  
too.  By doing your 2nd method you've complicated the template and  
make it harder for a non php developer to edit the HTML.
