I think the current implementation of the form framework lacks lots of features. Bernhard expose his thoughts on http://webmozarts.com/ and I think he has some cool ideas. I can't even rely on php inheritance to extend sfForm because of the current inheritance schema. Kris come out with a solutions addressing this issue, but the patch hasn't been included.. yet http://trac.symfony-project.org/ticket/6289. Zend Framework has some better solutions for the forms management and I really think that you should have a look at it's implementation.
