I am not sure yet if this is a problem that should be fixed in Doctrine or Symfony. All the patches for Symfony look like just workarounds to fix the problem in Doctrine. I have 1.2.2 scheduled for next week. Guilhermeblanco and I are going to spend some time committing patches throughout the week so I'll give it a look.
