I'm leaning toward approach 5. It seems like the right compromise between testability and KISS.
Before I cast my vote I'd like to see more discussion about Lukas' suggestion that we use the DIC for injecting these dependencies. What would that look like? I just want to be sure we're not re-inventing something that we already have.
