To discuss the plugin. As a maintainer my position is that this plugin is for porting existing code that needs the functionality of the old prototype helpers. So the code you're thinking of writing would be welcome, yes, provided you maintain backwards compatibility with the existing behavior of the jquery helpers (even if it doesn't perfectly match the prototype helpers) since this is considered a very stable and boring plugin at this point. In the long term, the goal is to stop using the plugin at all - it's very easy to write jquery natively and it results in far fewer surprises. We are gradually eliminating it from Apostrophe.
