yeah .. like i said in many cases you need to customize, but more granularity
will make this easier.
also the "conclusion" of the twig vs php template discussion was that both are equal, but
i guess we do favor twig now for Bundle templates? or do we "expect" Bundle authors to
provide both? or do we not care?
I think we need to make Twig the best-practice for third-party bundles.

PS: I am well aware that especially DoctrineUserBundle has already seen quite a
bit of changes to Symfony2 core in its life time, so just to make clear, i am
not knocking the Bundle and we (Liip) are of course prepared to chip in .. for
example in porting things to twig and separating the templates a bit.
