This is a good point. How difficult is it to extend the firewall system so 
that it can roll with something variable at the start of the URL like /en, 
/de, /es, etc.?

Although I suppose the firewall is primarily used to say "here's where the 
static stuff is, here's where the API is, and here's *everything else*" and 
the localized content is likely to be "everything else."
