files I recognized that the command generated a routing.xml file.
While in all other places of the sandbox config files are present in
all three formats (YML, XML and PHP) wouldn't it be good to add a
routing.yml and routing.php file to the skeleton directory?

The YAML file corresponding to the XML file of the skeleton is an empty
file. I'm quite sure you can create it yourself :)
