First up its is more work, sure it can be scripted, but still its more work. 
And then the next thing is asking for bug fixes, people will be combining 
various different tags because they want that one feature from a newer tag and 
then will ask how to make it all work. Its just a pandoras box. Getting 
feedback is important, but in alpha stage there cannot be much hand holding .. 
not because we don't want to, but because everybody is short on time and we 
need to focus on getting to a stable release.

Seriously, this will change once we are closer to a stable release.
In the mean time if you dont want to live on the edge use submodules or a self 
maintained fork.

Also the more people help on documentation, bug fixing (or even just 
verification) the faster we will get there.
