Looking at the direction that the Symfony2 framework goes, I think it would be a good thing to move the DoctrineBunlde to it's own bundle out of the framework core.
This will shrink the framework and will make it more dynamic, allowing developers to choose which database bundle they want to use, for example DoctrineMongoDBBundle which doesn't require this bundle.
