Yep, as I said in my opening post, I'm a Gaufrette fan myself. I actually 
even started doing a relatively major 
refactor<https://github.com/KnpLabs/Gaufrette/tree/feature/file-metadata-refactoring>for
 it to make it more object oriented and better supporter of metadata. 
The reason I'm talking about this here is I think the topic is both generic 
and fundamental enough to deserve larger attention than it's maybe getting 
now.
