That's not a question symfony can answer - it depends on the O/RM tool you use.
Check if Propel (propel.phpdb.org) or Doctrine (doctrine.pengus.net) have Informix support (these are the two O/RM tools well supported by symfony). Another way is using PDO directly instead of an O/RM tool (or the PHP informix bindings).
