You'll be able to write a filter that can read existing session
information, and tap that into the sfSecurityUser (er, or is it
sfBasicSecurityUser?) if you find a valid session.

Not all that difficult. I think even the askeet! tutorial demonstrates
how to setup a filter to look for a "cookie key" for the "keep me
logged in" functionality, which is pretty much going to look a lot
like your solution will..
