I created a little Perl script (yeah, I know!) to generate table
descriptions from the database itself.

With Oracle RDBMS, creating DB objects is seldom the task for an
application generator. Usually, the tables
exist, in a populated form, and all that is needed is an application.
This is the scenario in which the above script comes in handy.
