No, it's just a plain HTML page, no ajax whatsoever.

Writing the above, I had the idea to try in prod environment - and it 
works. So while my problem is kinda solved, this now seems more like a 
bug than before... can anybody confirm this? Could this be the debug 
toolbar?

This is sf 1.1.5, btw.
