A parse error in your template will cause it to halt rendering at the  
point of the parse error, before it includes the layout.

Check your templates don't have any syntax errors, Komodo IDE is good  
for this.

Alternatively, use the sfErrorHandlerPlugin (from SVN), it will show  
you exactly where your error is ;)
