You need to install alpha stability plugin like this (Symfony 1.2):

$ php symfony plugin:install -s "alpha" sfSimpleGoogleSitemapPlugin

Note the -s "alpha"

I'm going to be working for Symfony 1.0 and 1.1 compatibility.
