I want to create an atom feed, the first two lines are

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<feed xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom";>

But whenever I browse it, I always got this error

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in xxxx

But if I removed the first line, it works fine.

So for RSS feed, is the first line really mandatory? Why php always
point it as error?

Thanks
