Currently i'm having a similar problem. I'm working with symfony 1.4+sfDoctrineGuardPlugin. My problem is that the the user seems to be null, so when it is saved to the database, the username is saved like Facebook_, when it should be something like "Facebook_".$FacebookUserId. I've read the documentation from the advent calendar and i still haven't found how to solve this.
