In my opinion, I don't think that is suitable use a calendar widget to choose a birth date. It should be used to choose a date in the near past or in the near future, and for forms where the date is not sure, so the user need a calendar to make a choice. I think that picking your birth date is always faster with 3 normal select. And, if it's the only date field in the form, you save so many kb of data, and a little less js on the page. And it will be easy to understand for anyone, also without any "form completion" skills.
