You still can hydrate, if you do it like this:
ProductPeer::addSelectColumns($oCriteria);
$oCriteria->addAsColumn('current_price', 'IF(MAX(' . BidPeer::BID . ')

ProductPeer::PRICE . ')');
Then all the "normal" table columns are added, after that the custom
column is.
