Hey Madhur, - what gabriel said, perfect description. I just wanted to add that the whole process is usually very smooth can can be done within an hour. The only manual update I had to do after the upgrade was to rework use of the flash variable, as it was moved from the action to the user.. but search/replace can help with that. Overall it's totally worth it, 1.3 is so much nicer to use than 1.0.
Also, regarding your Doctrine question, if you're currently using Propel, take a look at the new Propel15 (http://www.propelorm.org/wiki/ Documentation/1.5/WhatsNew) and you'll probably just stick with it. The capabilities are now virtually identical, and if you like ActiveRecord there is no need to switch.
