I had the same problem.
The solution is to create a block.
layout.twig:
<head>
<title></title>
{% block head %} This text be written if the block 'head' doesn't exist
in your children template {% endblock %}
{% javascript 'js/myscript.js' %}
{% javascripts %}
</head>
index.twig:
{% extends "SiteBundle::layout.twig" %}
{% block head %}
{% javascript 'js/index.js' %}
{% endblock %}
