I implemented a two-step form using validation groups. Basically I created a form type and then i have a method on that class like configForStepTwo(). In this method i make everything for step one hidden inputs. This way none of the info is saved until the second step is completed. I will post some code later as I have to run out right now, but maybe that will give you some ideals.
