Something like the following:

use Symfony\Bundle\FrameworkBundle\Controller\Controller;
use Symfony\Component\HttpKernel\Exception\NotFoundHttpException;

class EntityController extends Controller
{
    public function getEntityAction($id)
    {
        $em = $this->get('doctrine')->getEntityManager();
        
        $entity = $em->find('MyBundle:Entity', $id);
        if (!$entity) {
            throw new NotFoundHttpException('The specified entity does not 
exist.');
        }
    }
}

This will forward 404.
