You may want to make that clearer in the documentation.
The Sonata bundle does not need this inheritance as it does not
overwrite any controller or template from the FOS bundle (it does not
provide any template or controller). So removing it was about letting
the end-user inherit from FOSUserBundle directly instead of adding an
undocumented constraint
