At least in Debian, "git log" shows in colors and it is in less, so I guess
it uses
the colors automatically. But I have this in my ~/.gitconfig:
[color]
diff = auto
status= auto
branch= auto
interactive = true
as to the prompt --- sure, put it into the wiki please.
