Seems we agree that cubics and quartics should be set to Trueby default, so
I
submitted a patch.
What remains to be done now is that rational roots should be returned with
cubics=False, so the following is wrong:
In [13]: p1 = ((x-2)*(x+3)*(x-4)).expand()
In [14]: roots(p1, x, cubics=False)
Out[14]: {} # should return 2, 3, -4
