Thanks for the report. This is fixed in trunk.
In [1]: f = x**2
In [2]: f(2)
TypeError: argument must be a dictionary
Actually calling f(2) is not allowed, you can use:
>>> f({x:2})
or
>>> f.subs(x,2)
or use a Lambda function
In [1]: f = Lambda(x, x**2)
In [2]: f(2)
Out[2]: 4
