The isinstance(f, Mul): ... stuff should be the first thing that solve() checks for. The recursive factorization could be made optional if it's too slow. Or guess_solve_strategy() could suggest it for any instance of Add as a "last resort". Please also note Fredrik's comment in issue 1365.
