Patch is good except for some formatting details and other minor things. See
http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0008/ and
http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0257/
for more info on general python coding style conventions. A test for
check_symmetry=False is missing. I would also raise a ValueError instead of
a
TypeError when the symmetry check fails.
A modified patch is attached.
All tests pass on my machine.
