New issue 1899 by smichr: factor(3 + x - x*(1 + x) + x**2) != 3 http://code.google.com/p/sympy/issues/detail?id=1899 factor(3 + x - x*(1 + x) + x**2), it seems, should reduce to 3. Instead (in polys8) it just returns the same expression.
