Comment #2 on issue 2054 by asmeurer: does factor need to use cancel?
http://code.google.com/p/sympy/issues/detail?id=2054
If a fraction is truly factored into irreducibles, it should be unnecessary
to call cancel, because the terms will cancel themselves in Mul.flatten.
It looks like factor only does together() type reduction first in some
cases:
In [10]: factor(1/(x**2 + 2*x + 1) - 1)
Out[10]:
-x⋅(2 + x)
──────────
2
(1 + x)
In [11]: factor(1/(x**2 + 2*x + 1/x) - 1)
Out[11]:
1 2
1 - 2⋅x - ─ - x
x
────────────────
1 2
2⋅x + ─ + x
x
