Thanks for advice. It seems to be a way out of the problem.
However, if I have a 2x2 matrix M, a row vector v and a column vector w, I have to write:
1 + v.dot(M*w)
instead of
1 + v*M*w
which is more clear. Actually, I can't see a reason why a 1x1 matrix shouldn't be treated as a scalar.
