Well, since you also worked on a patch, I would consider your review to be valid. You definitely can say more about the changes than someone like me, who isn't at all familiar with that part of the code base. And besides, you have been working with SymPy for a while, so you so it's not like you are just some random person "reviewing" the patches.
As for the dates, I think it is because he rebased the patches over the current master. So the patches themselves are from November, but he rebased them in December.
