Hi.

This is indeed already a known issue (issue 1660). You are trying to take the derivative with respect to z + L, which is not allowed. The problem also comes when SymPy tries to apply the chain rule to expressions.

The solution would require SymPy to be able to represent the derivative evaluated at a point (see issue 1620).
