Sympy matrices aren't numpy ndarrays. exp(M) should be a matrix
exponential, not the matrix containing the exponentials of the elements, so
I don't think this makes sense - and .applyfunc() does what's requested
here, anyway.
So I'm closing this as WontFix, reopen the issue if you disagree.
