Well, it's kind of a convoluted way of representing it. And it would complicate actual evaluation quite a bit.
I would much rather just implement the D operator from issue 1620. Pending that, it might be best to just make that raise an error (or return the dubious Derivative(f(g(x)), g(x)) that it used to).
