The main part of this issue was fixed. In master:
In [1]: EQN1 = -12.0* 12.0*(2*sqrt(3.0) + 9.0) + (78.0 + 24.0*sqrt(3.0)
...: )*x**2 - 3.0*sqrt(2.0) * x**3 - x**4
In [2]: solve(EQN1, x)
Out[2]: [4.89897948556636, -12.7530479110482, 7.46155167569183,
-3.85012393732929]
The other part (comment #4) still needs fixing.
