OK, I've been avoiding "dividing out" each denominator term, as it seems like a bad idea (it basically amounts to combining exponents), but I wonder if actually it would ever actually cause a problem.

Chris, what do you think? Could there ever be a case where d1*d2*...dn/dm does not produce d1*d2*...d(m-1)*d(m+1)*...dn (e.g., things don't cancel out in Mul.flatten)?
