Well, this hides the problem but doesn't solve the important issue: why does the same expression return different results?
And forget what I said about XFAIL tests, the difference between my bin/test and py.test runs is that the cache is cleared after each test in the latter case, so it's yet another cache issue that could be caused by any test in the file.
