The result is correct because 1/2 evaluates to 0, remember the integer division here.
Btw, in plain python 2**(1/2) returns 1 too.

Use sqrt(2), root(2,2), 2**Rational(1,2), 2**(1/S(2)) or 2**(S(1)/2) for the desired result.
