The reason you have 2**2 is that the poly printer isn't smart enough to put
parentheses around an Add generator. If you look carefully, it's just the
same as the original poly with "x" replaced with "-y + 2".
Poly should reevaluate the entire thing when this happens. What we have
now is wrong, because it assumes that y and -y + 2 are independent
generators. Add generators should not be allowed at all.
