I agree. See issue 2235 (actually, 1st_linear should go before separable
because the solution is always automatically solved for f(x)).
I think it's also time we cleaned up the mess that is constant
simplification, so that we never get more constants than the order of the
ODE. I see now that this was a poor design decision, and it should be
corrected. I created issue 3148 for this.
