of txt runs until end of the run

When I redirect doctest output to a file, only the *py output is written to
the file during testing. The *txt results don't appear until the run is
over. (While sending the output to stdout, however, they appear as they are
completed.) So "tail doc_output" never shows the txt results until the
whole run is over.
