Apparently using the separate tarballs is OK for Debian, so I'll go with
that.
Do you want to keep this issue open for the WindowsError thing, or track
that separately?
I think the simplest way to fix it is something like:
try:
running_errors = (OSError, WindowsError)
except NameError:
running_errors = OSError
and then catch running_errors.
